Like A Hit-And-Run Driver Asking For Gas Money

"Observers might deduce we are headed towards a second coming of the Era of Good Feelings. However, it would require a mild case of amnesia for anyone who has been paying attention to our national dialogue since 2001 to believe this.

The past eight years have not merely been partisan, but full of dangerous and unhinged hatred for President George W. Bush. And the engine of much of that bile were the men and women in the crowd at Grant Park, the rank and file of the next president's party, and the compliant media who did so much to destroy Bush and deify Obama."

-- Ryan L. Cole, who hasn't been swept up in the stupid yet, as befits The American Spectator.

  1. The past eight years have not merely been partisan, but full of dangerous and unhinged hatred for President George W. Bush.

He has earned the highest disapproval rating of any president in history -76 percent. And its not just Democrats either. Even majority of Republicans know that hes been a disaster. I figure somebody gets thousands of people killed for no good reason deserves more than just hatred, but I know there are some people who will make excuses and point fingers at anyone but the people really responsible.

  2. "There are some people who will make excuses and point fingers at anyone but the people really responsible."

Christopher Hitchens (who backed the war - and Obama) seems to agree, and said so in a recent column:

"Those who think that they have just voted to legalize Utopia,...are preparing for a disillusionment that I very much doubt they will blame on themselves."

That ain't describing we Bush supporters.

So, I'll keep sticking my chin out so you can take a swing at it, because - unlike liberals for the last 8 years - I'd hate to make life difficult for a fellow American.

    You keep dreaming now,

  3. I ain't looking for no utopia. Just a government that dont bring shame on itself like ours has for the last 8 years. And it looks like we finally got it.

  4. You're being hypocritical, Earl:

If those of us who were never ashamed of our country started acting like your forces did for the last 8 years then you would would declare we are wrong. You just won't accept it for yourself, which is textbook hypocrisy. And that's why I can't be a Democrat anymore:

They stand for nothing but selfishness and the only way to unite us is for Democrats to start acknowledging reality. Polls (like that which you cited for Bush) only tell the story for now. Many presidents had low poll numbers but, in time, were found to be great. I think the same will happen to Bush, and his critics - who chose to embarrass him in wartime - will be found to be the bigger problem, just like the hippies were. (Thinking an opinion of today will hold into tomorrow is just politically immature.)

You say you've "finally got it" like the man has actually done something yet - he hasn't - he merely came out the winner in a two-man race, nothing more. Only one could win, so, if I were you, I'd calm down:

Considering all the lies he told to get there, you may be setting yourself up for the biggest let-down in history.

  5. Nah. I looked into everything both of them said, and your boy won the liars contest in a sweep.

What we finally have is a president who doesnt owe every one of his "successes" to his old man's friends, and who will work to restore the Constitution and the respect of this country. You can keep bashing him for the next 8 years, but real Americans will be behind him as he tries to repair the damage Bush has done. If he fucks up intentionally or does something stupid we will nail him for it. But I dont think thats going to happen. Hes too smart, and seems to be a decent man.

  6. Really? Please, enlighten me: where are all these lies of John McCain? He's been on the national stage for 30+ years, so give it your best shot. I'm listening.

By the way, here's some of Honest Obey's.

Boy, that's some kind of "decent man" you've got there, isn't it? Why, if his life depended on his decency - rather than the media - he'd be a dead man rather than president-elect.

Also, I like that you're so in the tank that you've already handed him two terms - just as he did in his acceptance speech - I swear, you guys have enough hubris (unearned pride) to make a person think you got more than 52% of the vote. Also, you used the term "real Americans" - the same term Sarah Palin was slammed by Democrats for using - which is another display of hypocrisy. How do you guys do it? Oh, I forgot: it's easy when you've got no principles.

Anyway, I'm waiting for McCain's lies. Show me what you're made of - prove the validity of your words. Prove to me you're not just another brain-dead cultist yanking my chain. I dare you. Show me that, at least to some extent, you've got a little integrity. I want to see it. Really:

I'm even rooting for you, man.

  7. The American Spectator is a conservative U.S. monthly magazine best known for its attacks in the 1990s on Bill Clinton and its "Arkansas Project" to discredit the president, funded by billionaire Richard Mellon Scaife and the Bradley Foundation.

With two wars and a recession in progress some might argue that trying to kneecap the next president before he even assumes office is not patriotic... but if you're a billionaire I suppose these are things you don't have to worry about...

  8. I know, I know:

Now that you've got the president you want, the appearance of patriotism during wartime is very, very important to you - and anything that doesn't fit your version of it isn't - and this is based, of course, on the example of political propriety you guys showed over the last 8 years, right?

I swear, Democrat hypocrisy knows no bounds.

Here, I'll make you a deal:

When conservatives start marching on the weekends, running around naked and swearing to do this president in, no matter what, then I'll consider checking myself. Deal?

    Don't hold your breath, though.
