Hollywood Ain't Part Of America

"Hollywood wanted to change the graphic novel's alternate 1985 to the George W. Bush era, and turn Watchmen into a movie about the War on Terror."

-- Meredith Woerner, revealing how California's dream factory attempted to twist a great graphic novel into another vehicle for manipulating the public into an anti-American mindset, on io9.com.

  1. Yes, no wonder Alan Moore hates Hollywood getting hold of his stuff (though I confess to liking V for Vendetta when treated as a distinct entity from the graphic novel).

I personally don't think that Watchmen should or could be translated to film, even with a sympathetic screenwriter; much of its cohesion is in the layouts.

The only films - so far - to successfully convert graphic novel to big screen intact (as opposed to interpreting a la Dark Knight and Spidey) are Sin City and 300. One could speculate this is because Frank Miller has a cinematic quality to his art to begin with.
