We Are A Tree - Bearing The Fruit Of Evil

This headline in the Modesto Bee got my attention:

Pagan Weddings Attract More Than A Cult Following

But then, with "pagan" and "cult" in the title, it's just the sort of thing that would,...

It seems quite a few couples are taking that big leap with a whole other set of rules, without noticing that human nature doesn't change all that much - including our capacity to point and snicker - and with those get-ups, above, who wouldn't? The Modesto Bee article admits that most people regard pagan weddings as "mystical, bizarre and even evil" but - hey - why let a little thing, like everyone regarding you as "evil", stop you? It'll probably come in handy when you're trying to enroll the kid in school. If this is your kid:

What can be evil about a wedding you ask? Well, let's start with the vows:

According to Wiccans, you don't marry "'till death do us part" but "as long as our love endures", which, I shouldn't have to tell you, could be right until after the wedding when somebody new comes along. That's a lousy deal if you bought a gift for the ceremony. But since Wiccans emphasize the "moral autonomy of women" - not the character-building unity of a couple - what's to stop it from happening? Certainly not a little thing like the man that woman just "married". That idiot doesn't matter. You're "evil", remember?

"Wiccans take a stand against patriarchy and misogyny," says Lloyd Steffen, a religion professor at Lehigh University. They're also into "greater environmental awareness and the higher status of women".

Higher? Higher than who? What kind of a marriage is it where one partner is automatically higher than the other? And the environmental awareness part is a hoot. I, for one, will have to miss your ceremony if it means sitting through another lecture on the need to recycle or the perils of Global Warming.

Sorry, but I'll just have to celebrate your one-sided bond in my own way,...like driving my car as fast as I can while wantonly throwing styrofoam out the windows.

Raven Kaldera, a Massachusetts officiant and co-author of the book "Handfasting & Wedding Rituals: Welcoming Hera's Blessing" instructs her fellow clergy to take gay and lesbian weddings especially seriously. 'For many gay and lesbian couples, this is the only celebration they will get to have.'"

Raven Kaldera has obviously never lived in, or near, a gay community because, if there's one thing they're not short on, it's celebrations.

What do you think Feather Girl, above, is celebrating? Man, I got a lesbian friend that could really show her what to do with that feather: she'd call it "the power of the ancients" and everything!

Speaking of gay couples (and contradicting Raven Kaldera completely) Pete Burns, from the band Dead Or Alive - which in 1985 had the No. 1 hit record, "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)" - is divorcing his husband/wife/whatever, saying gay marriages are "a total joke"; gays are too promiscuous (No!) and asking "How low is their self-esteem?" (From the looks of things - that's Mr. Burns on the left - I'd say pretty darned low,...) Mr. Burns was married for 28 years to a female hair stylist - I shit you not - who stereotypically "needed to find her own life" (whatever that means) so he went on to marry the guy he now claims broke his collarbone.

If you ask me, it just sounds like more of the "moral autonomy of women" and "as long as our love endures" crap. It's no wonder conservatives are fighting to protect marriage because these fools don't have a clue about what it's for or what to do once in it.

And finally, on the "weddings from Hell" front, according to GlossLip.com, Nicole Kidman, the ex-Mrs. Tom Cruise, “wants her kids freed from Scientology." You can read the rest for yourself but I'll just leave you by making the obvious observation that if she was Wiccan, or gay, she wouldn't be having these problems.

Yea, I know: I'm "evil".

  2. you're kind of an a-hole, but man this blog has some beautiful images on it, so thanks for those. as for the "environment", that outside thing that you don't really have to worry about (because you are an ecological ignoramus), well it's actually too late, we are well in overshoot, and you should expect to see the four horsemen collecting on their debts over the coming decades. you and your kids can argue directly with the limits of the biosphere, who do you think will win?

  3. I agree with Anonymous. You have no clue what you talking about and have OBVIOUSLY not done you homework.
Do the world a favor, next time you see something you don't understand, either keep your mouth shut or do the research. Not everyone has the same believes. Religion is as diverse as the people on this planet, that does not necessarily make it 'evil'.

  4. Katrina,

Wow - you just spit two of my favorite sayings:

    I agree with Anonymous.

"Not everyone has the same [beliefs]."

One indicates agreement with a nobody, and the other says you think you're "special".

Both indicate severe stupidity - which, I guess, comes with the territory.

    Thanks for writing.

    Whoa - you can write!

  5. How is saying "Not everyone has the same beliefs" at all related to believing that you alone are special? What retardo-logic got you to that conclusion?

She's saying that people are diverse; it has nothing to do with valuing one opinion over another. "Not everyone has the same beliefs" becomes "You think you're special." How do you even come up with that?

Your incapacity to understand ideas logically indicates severe stupidity. The irony.

  6. Katy,

You have no experience with these people, do you?

  7. Wow, it amazes me that you really have nothing better to do with your life than judge other people and their beliefs. It's really quite pathetic! And as for your info on the Wiccan belief, you're either just plain ignorant or you just like being a douche bag! If you want to get technical, the entire christian religion was basically stolen and based off of pagan beliefs! The early christian churches were built on pagan places of worship and all of their holidays are stolen from pagans as well! The only thing they changed was the date by a little and then they added their god!
And honestly, if you're an Atheist why do you even care??? You're just going to be worm food right? Grow up and do something with your life!

  8. Elizabeth,

if you're an Atheist why do you even care???

Because you're as nuts as any Christian and you ALL destroy life as we know it.

    Thanks for writing.

    P.S.

Running a popular blog is "doing something" with my life.

    See, you're stupid - that's the problem.

  9. Elizabeth,

wow, I was under the impression that blogging is a form of sitting on your ass in front of a computer all day because you cant find a real job! nice!

Wow, then you really are an idiot because - guess what? - the world doesn't run on your "impressions". (Not so "nice!" after all,..you dummy.)

oh and by the way, I happen to have a college masters degree in psychology asshole! So much for stupid!

You dim bulb, that just puts you in the "credentialed but not educated" crowd. I'm so impressed - NOT:

Essentially an ideological monoculture — with professors almost exclusively on the Left and students overwhelmingly so — students,...tend to push,...into a set of default assumptions about the world around them — assumptions that are shared by their classmates and professors but have frequently proven to be not just wrong, but destructive.

Want to tell me more about your assumptions - oops, I mean "impressions" - Liz?

The fact you would even say you have a degree exposes your stupidity. (And the way you throw "asshole" around afterwards is a definite indicator of scholarly achievement.) How's it feel not to even be able to intimidate a black military veteran with a lowly G.E.D.? Loser.

And out of curiosity, how exactly am I destroying the planet just like the Christians? And how are my religious beliefs or the beliefs of Christian's crazy?

Whoo-hoo! I looove how you go right from insults to asking! Is that more proof of that highly-regarded "college masters degree in psychology" you got there? (And what's it printed on, toilet paper? Or are they handing out "jr. high school masters degrees" now?)

Didn't they ever teach you social skills in that fancy-schmancy university you supposedly went to, or did they just do the obvious and take your money before kicking you to the curb with "educated" stamped on your forehead? Naw, Sister, the way I see it, you've got two options to choose from:

    1) Say "pretty please".

    2) Read the fuckin' blog.

And to be honest - even as much as I'd like to see you beg - if I were you, I'd go for option #2:

Because, baby, you most definitely need it.

  10. *claps in sarcastic manner* where to start...if you knew ANYTHING about Wicca you would know that we focus on gender equality. Your argument that the Marriage is not sacred because it holds one gender to a higher standard is bogus because 1.the whole gender equality belief and 2.In most Abrahamic religions the man is held to a higher standards even in today's society...so do you wish to attack the christian faith as well? Whats wrong with being aware of the Earth and wanting to take care of it anyways? And as a Wiccan...I DON'T THINK I'M EVIL, why? Because i'm not. I help people, I don't worship the devil, i dont even believe in the devil and i hate to see people in pain...tell me how i'm evil.

  11. If you'd done some research then you'll find out that wicca is not evil, in fact it is the total opposite, it is looking at the good in life, all life, including the green stuff your throwing "polystyrene" at (or what ever it is). This blog is EXTREMELY racist
